A basement secondary suite requires everything a standard finish does, plus a separate entrance, egress windows in sleeping areas, fire separation between the suite and the main dwelling, a second bathroom, and a small kitchen. Moisture assessment before you start

Before any finishing work begins, the basement should be assessed for moisture.
